The Kathy Barwick Music Scholarship was established in 1970 by William and Joyce Barwick of Alexandria, in memory of their daughter, Kathy Barwick, who died of leukemia in 1969. She had played the violin in the T.C. Orchestra and attended the Virginia Music Camp.
The scholarships have been awarded annually to an orchestra member from each of the city's secondary schools, chosen for their talent and ability as well as involvement in their school music program. The students attend the Virginia Music Camp at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia.
