James Warren “Jim” Early

James Warden Early, 55, of Midlothian, Virginia, died March 12, 2006 after a heroic battle with cancer. 

Mr. Early was born September 15, 1950 in Alexandria, Virginia to Herbert Monroe and Martha Lancaster Early. He grew up in Alexandria and spent childhood summers in the mountains near Wardensville, West Virginia with his extended family of beloved parents, siblings, grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from East Carolina University in 1968, and a master's degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a CPA, working initially for Coopers & Lybrand, and then moved to finance, first at Ethyl Corporation and then at Tredegar Corporation. 

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Belinda Broome Early; and his children, Sam and Ellen; his mother, Martha Lancaster Early; two sisters, Paige Early Word and her husband, George, and Elizabeth Venable Early; two brothers, Richard Hopkins Early and Herbert M. Early Jr.; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. 

He will be most remembered for his unforgettable wit, his love of books and story telling, and for his extraordinary love for his children. He was most at peace with his friends and family in the natural beauty of Buggs Island Lake. 

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (corner of Winterfield and Salisbury Road). A reception will follow in Redeemer's Parish Hall. Brice Wilson “Buddy” Rhyne Jr

January 9, 1950 – November 4, 1979 @ 29 Memorial FindAGrave Link Buddy lived in Brooklyn and was employed by the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Arts in New York City at the time of his suicide (during a visit to Alexandria).  When he was a college student at Columbia College, he wrote an Letter to the Editor re a mugging. 

Kathryn Joyce “Kathy” Barwick

October 11, 1950 – August 17, 1969 @ 18 Memorial FindAGrave Link The Kathy Barwick Music Scholarship was established in 1970   by William and Joyce Barwick of Alexandria, in memory of their daughter, Kathy Barwick, who died of leukemia in 1969. She had played the violin in the T.C. Orchestra and attended the Virginia Music Camp. The scholarships have been awarded annually to an orchestra member from each of the city's secondary schools, c hosen for their talent and ability as well as involvement in their school music program. The students attend the Virginia Music Camp at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia.
